“Come and Get Some!”
I’d gladly pay $10 for the Beeter (beet “pastrami,” white kimchi, and Thai pepper mayo) and probably more for the Han Cholo (chorizo, Cotija cheese, tomatillo salsa) at this ATL favorite. But at $4 apiece (chips included), this has to be the greatest meal deal in America. One of the most creative places to open recently is Victory Sandwich Bar (280 Elizabeth St., 770-676-7287) in Inman Park. Technically, yes, this isn’t a full-service restaurant. It’s a pub serving some clever food. The menu is something like a hybrid of sliders and tapas. One such byproduct of the new economy is Victory Sandwich Bar, tucked away on a side street in the heart of Inman Park. One part deli and one part pub, with a healthy dash of hipster, Victory offers something that few other restaurants in town can — a place to get affordable, creative sandwiches and a full bar serving up an impressive collection of cocktails. Compared to other cities in roughly the same genre (youthful, sprawling, diverse), Atlanta doesn’t offer much of a platform for would-be indie food entrepreneurs with small budgets. I hear the same complaints constantly: “Why do we need twenty parking spaces or a grease trap as big as a Volkswagen to start putting out good food?” One major culprit seems to be a real estate landscape that favors cookie-cutter developments with oversized storefronts anathema to creative types.
