“discover the wonderment of waterfalls”
Stony Brook State Park is a state park of New York in the United States. It is located south of Dansville in Steuben County on New York State Route 36. Stony Brook State Park Campground is short distance away. The Park has two entrances, upper and lower, connected (other than Route 36) only by the stream and trails. The signature attraction of the park is the eponymous brook, which is an example of small, post-glacial streams in the Finger Lakes area. The small creeks and brooks in this area cut through the Great Lakes-area escarpments following retreat of the ice age glaciers, creating deep, narrow gorges, with many waterfalls, which are uncommonly accessible. As do some other parks in the region, such as Fillmore Glen State Park, Robert H. Treman State Park, and Buttermilk Falls State Park, the park features a semi-natural swimming pool, created by a small dam constructed in the lower reaches of the stream.Stony Brook became a summer tourist spot in the late 19th century, following the construction of a railroad in 1883. The resort fell into decline by the 1920s. New York state resurrected the area by buying the land and establishing the state park in 1928.
This place is tucked between this rocky area, but when you discover it then you will be amazed.
There are loads of activities to do while visiting this park and if you have children like I do, they will certainly enjoy the playground which exists at the park. During your hiking, you can also enjoy a lunch break at the picnic tables provided.
The car park of the park is just next to it and if you go early you will be able to find a space to put your car easily,
The waterfalls are an extra for this place and if you have a swimming suit just go for it, but be prepared for a chilly experience!
Great place to camp as well! Strongly recommended.
