“A love for authentic Thai food”
Gene and Jay Potchana opened Royal Thai in July of 1992 for many reasons, but mostly their mutual love of authentic Thai food. Before then, Gene enjoyed working in management while Jay thoroughly enjoyed cooking. He spent 12 years working for others in the restaurant business before finally deciding to take the plunge on his own - looking to his mother, Boonroam, as his culinary inspiration. Before coming to Dallas to help get Royal Thai off the ground, Boonroam cooked in a high volume eatery outside of Bangkok that specialized in exotic Thai food. Jay used many of his mother's recipes and fused them with other culinary instincts from the streets of Thailand. This led Royal Thai to become a neighborhood favorite in Dallas Texas, at a time when Thai food was relatively unknown. When you walk through our doors, you walk into a peaceful retreat, a refuge from the everyday. You might even feel as though you've walked into Thailand herself. From the first moment, you can feel the ambiance of the Thailand culture and can begin to enjoy her charm and hospitality. We invite you to sit back and relax in our casually elegant dinning room to sample her cuisine known for its rich, exotic and distinctive flavors. Even though Thai cuisine is known for its enthusiastic use of fresh herbs and spices, those who have less-adventuresome taste buds will not be left out. All of our offerings can be prepared to your individual tastes while still maintaining authenticity. We believe that authentic Thai meals and an excellent wine list can only be matched by superb service. You will find that our excellent wait staff not only serves, but can also guide your selection and answer any question you might have regarding your choice. For the past fifteen years, Royal Thai sole goal and ambition has been to introduce the Dallas community to a few of the wonders Thailand has to offer. Please accept out invitation to enjoy a beautiful dinning experience. Welcome to Thailand. Welcome to Royal Thai
