Fort Ebey State Park

We *almost* stayed at Fort Casey State Park in preparation for the ferry, but are SO glad we stayed here instead. It is absolutely beautiful! Lots of trees, bluffs overlooking the ocean, and some amazing mountain biking trails. Very technical, but we were able to each get out twice on some good trails.

We stayed in a dry camping site which was great. End of the loop and in the off season there was no one! We were right next to the trail to the battery as well, plus we had TONS of space for the kids to stretch out and run around.

We also visited Ebey's Landing and the town of Coupeville. Both were great!

Boosted we had 2 bars of Verizon LTE.

My wife and I stayed here as an affiliate area to Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve. While Fort Casey State Park has some more impressive historic locations, Fort Ebey has the FAR superior campground, hiking trails, and overall scenery (Fort Casey is right up against a port for the ferry -- crowded and loud).

If you go to Fort Ebey, make sure to take a leisurely walk along the Bluff Trail!

I could get only one weeknight here, last minute during peak demand, and was surprised to find it had not only 30A electric but also water hookup. Not all sites do, and this pull through was a little pricier as a result ($50 includes taxes but not online fee additional $8. Park is well maintained and unbelievably beautiful setting with trails on bluff looking at sunset, history, wooded hiking and biking. Would come back to stay here in a heartbeat ! One star off for noise of fighter jets from nearby Navy base but kind of cool to watch them.

One of our favorite campgrounds. We were fortunate to get a mid-summer reservation during the week in August. The campground is located at an old fort on a bluff overlooking Puget Sound with great views of the Olympic Peninsula. For access to the water it's necessary to go to the north end of the park. Make sure you go to the wonderful town of Coupeville and check it out.

Site 42 is dry camping (no hookups) but is one of the few sites that provides some solar starting late morning in August. As an added bonus it backs up to a small trail the leads to a bench that over looks the Sound with great sunset views. The site is not very level but worth the effort for the solar.

We did have the added bonus of watching a submarine heading out to sea.

Be prepared for some jet noise. It is near the Naval Air Station in Oak Harbor and jets do fly over during the day and night time operations are possible. Not a problem for me, I love jet noise. You do get seaplanes flying by during the day as well. Again, fun to watch.

So there is enough data here to work remote :) tmo 5g coverage anyway.

The spot we picked was fairly close to its neighbors, but generally speaking OK. Some spots have power, others do not. Ours does not. Very shaded as well, so no solar.

Beautiful area and will be back.

Bathroom could’ve used a refurbishment and a smart lock on the door (also, be sure to have cash—.50 per 3 min of shower with tokens) but otherwise what a gem. The rv spots are ok, adequate space between and full even in mid October. But quiet and shielded from one another by pine trees. The greatest part: You can do a short hike to the bluff to get amazing views of Puget Sound or a longer one through an enchanting forest of pine and fern. You can stop and check out the wwii bunker/gunner along the hike. Also a beautiful, wide open park along the hike at the end of the bunker/gunner area with picnic tables and a grand view of puget sound. Gorgeous. Peaceful. Magical.

Fort Ebey State Park, a 645-acre camping park on Whidbey Island, was originally built as a coastal defense fort in World War II. Concrete platforms mark the gun locations. The park has three miles of saltwater shoreline on the Strait of Juan de Fuca, a freshwater lake for fishing, and miles of hiking and biking trails.  The campground/park has 2 large fields that will accommodate sports activities and it also has a picnic area with 25 unsheltered picnic tables.
