“scenic area on the Oregon Coast”

Situated in one of the most scenic areas on the Oregon coast, Sunset Bay State Park features beautiful sandy beaches protected by towering sea cliffs. Only a short walk from the beach, the campground has sites for tent camping and RV's, as well as cozy and comfortable yurts. Day-use and picnic facilities are located along the bay to allow easy access for beachcombing, fishing, swimming, and boating. A network of hiking trails connects Sunset Bay with nearby Shore Acres and Cape Arago State Parks. Hiking these trails will give you a chance to experience pristine coastal forests, seasonal wildflowers and spectacular ocean vistas from atop the rugged cliffs and headlands. From points along the trail, you'll be treated to views of Gregory Point and the Cape Arago lighthouse. A public golf course is located next to the park and the nearby fishing village of Charleston provides opportunities for crabbing, clamming and fishing. In fact, there are plenty of secret treasures in the Sunset Bay area.

We are from Idaho, we camp along the Oregon coast every couple of years. Usually we wing it and stay wherever we can get in but this year we decided to make reservations.

We googled best campgrounds on the Oregon coast and decided to camp places we can stay at least 3 days. So this was on the trip. We had a blast. The Oregon coast I'd beautiful, the hiking is phenomenal for all levels. We hiked around the campgrounds in the mornings, hit the cove for paddle boards in the afternoons, sunsets on the beach or off the trails at Shore Acres.

Of special interest was the number and diversity of the hiking trails. Such a great time seal watching, hiking and checking out the botanical gardens. Coos Bay is more of a working coastal town vs a tourist town so the shopping/seafood is better, less expensive and less pretentious then like Newport or Lincoln City

One of our favorite stops. We are a family of six, kids ages 1 to 10. We were there the first of June and the weather was a little chilly but the kids still played in the sand and we went kayaking in the bay. It was nice for them to be able to be out on the water without them being out in the open ocean. They even has some seals pay attention to them. The tidepools were fun and had enough critters to be exciting. Not to mention the amazing view!

Farther off of Hwy 101 than I realized, but a nice destination. We camped in a tent and had a nice spot. The bay is sheltered and you could swim there if you want, which is rare for Oregon beaches.
