“exemplifying the interest locals have in covered bridges”
This bridge is 150 feet long and 36 feet wide. It was built in 1997 by APAC and is open to the public. It's truss is styled with decorative lattice. It goes over Mill Rock Creek. There is a parking area at this bridge. Formerly known as Haralson Mill Bridge, it is not historic, but it exemplifies the interest the public still has in covered bridges. Originally designed as a pre-stressed concrete bridge, county planners decided to make this bridge a landmark, adding a large wooden superstructure and rock facing to the underlying concrete bridge. Total cost of the redesigned bridge: $880,000. Concerned about the possibility of fire, this bridge is equipped with cameras, smoke detectors, and a sprinkler system.
So cute! Love covered bridges and the smell from the woods and creek is wonderful. It's about 15 minutes from downtown Conyers. I Google mapped Haralson Mill Rd NE and it took is right there.
The directions listed on this site are WAY off. But they did take us to the Rockdale Welcome Center. I went in and asked the friendly attendant for directions to the covered bridge. She pulled out a map, showed me the way and we were off. It is about 20 minutes from the welcome center. There is a path down to the river underneath it for an additional photo op. It is a beautiful bridge, worth the extra miles on our trip.
Bridge is on 4400 Haralson Mill Rd about 18 minutes from this location didn't double check it before driving to this location, so was a little frustrated with directions. It is quite a bit more drive but it is a nice and unique. Not many of these bridges around anymore so it is great to see one up close.
This doesn't navigate you to the bridge. You have to click on the website and get the address. Didn't see the bridge because it was further than expected once we found where it was.
