“Home of the Ohio State Buckeyes”
Ohio Stadium is the home of the Ohio State Buckeyes college football team and is located on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The stadium was added to the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service on March 22, 1974.With a capacity of 102,329, it is the fourth largest football stadium in the United States and the seventh largest non-racing stadium in the world. In 1999, the stadium underwent a three-year face-lift that was completed in time for the season opener against Akron in 2001. Thanks to a creative financing plan, no university or student monies were used during the renovation process. Instead the sale of the hospitality suites and club seats, covered 80 percent of the cost, with the remainder being covered by naming-rights gifts, monies from additional ticket availability, increased concessions and merchandise revenues and bonds. As a result of that renovation, the Stadium is completely up to code in terms of disability seating. Additionally, aisles have been widened, rails have been added and lighting has been installed in the concourses. There are also many more restrooms and concession stands on all levels. The stadium also has been the site of several summer concerts, including performances by Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones.
I'd argue there's no better stadium in college football. Before the game, there is tailgating EVERYWHERE. People in Columbus live and breathe Buckeyes football so expect the city to shut down every Saturday for a game, even away. For home games, the party starts early. For instance, tailgates would begin around 9am for a 4pm kickoff... no joke. Once you get into the stadium, expect chills. Regardless of who you support, the crowd is loud for the entire game, the winds swirl towards the lower levels due to the stadium's shape, and nobody sits. It helps that OSU is good at football, but it's always a fun time. And don't step out for halftime, OSU's band is equally as famous and is sure to put on a show like you've never seen before (reference YouTube if you don't know what I'm talking about). Although tickets are limited, try to get to a game, or tailgate at the very least.
O-H... one of the largest college stadiums in the nation, and one of the best experiences for a college football game, as well. The tailgating is insane, so if you are going to the game, make a day of it and get the whole experience and tailgate (for a 12:05pm kickoff, tailgating starts as soon as the sun rises). Parking is terrible and the traffic is terrible, so plan on that, too.
I've had so many good times here. Go Buckeyes!
Massive doesn't even begin to describe it. It's like a small city, heck small isn't even the right word this stadium holds more people than most cities. A site to behold.
