“Food & Drink in Columbus, OH”
We've got our newest beer fermenting away, and we're set to tap it later this month. It's called Fortune Teller (East India Imperial Porter.) Those of you who have been with us awhile know that IPAs orignated when British brewers hopped up their pale ales for the long trip to India and subsequent consumption by British troops there. Hops are a natural preservative, so it's natural that the hop rate would go up in lieu of refrigeration. But did you know that IPAs were reserved for officers? It's true. The common man in the British Empire those days drank porters. It turns out that thus it was so for the oridnary enlisted man in the Britsh forces. British brewers brewed a hopped up version of their porter "for the rest for us" in India. We pay tribute to this historical discovery by brewing a hoppy porter. Full disclosure: we didn't think an oridinary porter with a bunch of hops would taste all that great, so we modified historical recipes by added barley malt to up the mouth feel and round out the beer. The result will be about 7.5% ABV, and we hope you enjoy consuming it as much as we enjoyed resesearching and brewing Fortune Teller East India Imperial Porter.
