I’ve been to my fair share of “state museums.” Most of them are sooo boring {insert yawn here} but South Carolina’s state museum is anything but boring! In fact, I think it was my very favorite thing to see in Lake Murray Country!

And honestly, I’m not alone. My boys spent about twice the time exploring here, compared to the (amazing) children’s museum just sitting across the parking lot.

Beware, the price of admittance doesn't cover the Civil War Relics section or the Planetarium. I have been to many, many museums and if they are going to charge extra for certain exhibits, they tell you that. In fact, it's usually shown in large posters. Not here, they didn't tell us when we bought the tickets. You show up at the Civil War Relics and the Planetarium and then they tell you about the extra charges. You shouldn't have surprises like this at a government-funded museum. Overall, the exhibits are just OK.
