“170 ft. tall Catsup bottle!”
The World's Largest Catsup Bottle® stands proudly next to Route 159, just south of downtown Collinsville, Illinois. This unique 170 ft. tall water tower was built in 1949 by the W.E. Caldwell Company for the G.S. Suppiger catsup bottling plant - bottlers of Brooks old original rich & tangy catsup. In 1995, due to the efforts of the Catsup Bottle Preservation Group, this landmark roadside attraction was saved from demolition and beautifully restored to its original appearance. Recognized the world over as an excellent example of 20th century roadside Americana, the World's Largest Catsup Bottle regularly garners national attention and attracts visitors and tourists every day. In August of 2002 it was named to the National Register of Historic Places.
I love ketchup, so this was cool for me. My kids did not even get out of the car, so I guess they did not feel the same.
Seeing these kinds of things while traveling is what makes road trips fun. It is nothing special. But hey, it's ginormous! So snap a photo with this giant and let your friends "catch-up" with your coolness. Ahaha. Get it? Catchup. Oh dear, why am I not as entertaining as this bottle.
It was as big as they say it was! Very quaint in its essence but settled in an odd location, seemingly being used as a water tower? Cute for a quick stop and photo-op, plus the town was cute.
There's really no place to pull over to get a good photo. So, I recommend, if you're coming from Ariston, pull over to the right when you're up the hill and take a shot of it from there. Overall, just a meh photo-op.
Big disappointment. Not worth the stop. Cute town though...
It's a great icon!
If you're right there you might as well drive by, but it's just a water tower.
If you are in the area you should stop. Cute town.
Cute. There's a McDonald's nearby, which makes for some easy jokes.
Well this was neat and you definitely can NOT miss it!!
