“Unusual park set on an island”
Chief Timothy Park sits on a 282-acre island on Lower Granite Lake in the Snake River. The park is known as the gateway to Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, the deepest river gorge in North America and an area of striking scenery, abundant cultural history and outdoor adventure. The campground is spacious and shady, with a well-maintained day use area as well as swimming beach, boat launch, and five docks for the convenience of boaters and fishermen. There are a variety of campsites, including those with electric hookups as well as tent-only sites. All roads in the park are paved and all sites have picnic tables and campfire pits. Four cabins are available to visitors without camping equipment or those who would like an easier camping experience.

Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on July 09, 2022We ended up here because we got a late start out of Salmon Lake, MT. The park is clean and well maintained. The fire rings were cleaned up (a pet peeve of mine). There is wood for sale (in season) and walking paths and river access. The only drawback is Hwy12 is right across the river, hence the 4-stars.

We payed $38.50 for partial hookups (water/electric only) Nice sized sites with fire pits and picnic tables. Some are riverside. Has a day use area as well as sites with no hookups, full, and partial hookups. There are boat docks, swimming area, and a swimming area for dogs. Not much privacy between sites, but they are a decent size. We didn’t have cell service at the park, but not to far away we had both AT&T and T-Mobile.

This is a fairly large Corps campground along the river about ten miles west of Clarkston, WA. Large grassy sites with full or partial hookups. There’s also a more private tent only area at the far end (east) of the RV area.
It’s privately run so they don’t offer the federal Senior or Access discounts. They did give us a $2.50 Good Sam discount, which put the price at $35 for water and 30 amp electrical.
The bathrooms and showers are clean but dated.
It’s a bit of a drive to Clarkston and Lewiston (10-15 minutes) but overall quite nice.

Stayed here for a weekend with my family and while we had fun, we likely won't be back.
The good: Within walking distance to the swim beach and FULL hookups right on the water with a nice big area in front of the camper for the doggos and kids to play. Also fairly quiet and camp hosts are friendly.
The bad: Campsites are fairly too close together and it smells in the heat because of the sewer lines from the campers. Sprinklers could be turned on more and a few of the amenities could be cleaner (playground was covered in cobwebs as were the bathrooms).
The ugly: SPIDERS. Not just a few here and there- no, HUGE spiders by the thousands. Squash one and four emerge. They built nests under my camper, under my car, under our tow vehicle and just...everywhere! I can normally deal with spiders outdoors but this...this was like the acromantulas from Harry Potter defended for a family reunion. Now I understand how Ron felt "I don't like spiders"... me too Ron, me too.

This is great little park. But needed mowed. Many of the sites with partial hookups cannot see the water. They've allowed the trees and vegitatation to block the view. They could clean out the under growth and still have the feeling of it being natrual.
The bathrooms are clean and the RV sites are level and easy to access. Site 17 has no shade from 9 am until 7:30 pm in the summer. Great swimming area. Kayaks, coanoes and rafts have a lot of room to be enjoyed.

This park looks like it used to be cared for. Nice layout, easy to access sites, nice placement of restrooms, boat launch and day use area. We arrived September 11, 2023 reserved for 4 days to explore the area. It was immediately obvious that there had been little to no yard maintenance for the entire spring-summer and now fall season. What little grass there was left was yellow and dead. The only green was from weeds - 3.5’ thistles and goat heads. Who knows when the last time it was mowed since there were lots of needles, dead leaves & other tree debris everywhere. Every host site had a “off duty” sign the entire time. Even though there were plenty of campers, it looked abandoned by those who were tasked to take care of it.

Just got home from our 1st RV trip!! Chief Timothy was beautiful and the staff was amazing!! We started off at site 17 (beautiful but no sewer hook up there, we didn’t know how fast your tanks fill up with 2 adults, 3 kids and 2 dogs hahaha).. After 2 nights we asked if we could move to a site that had a sewer hook up. It was no problem and the ladies there were so helpful!!! It was super clean and the regular bathroom/showers were clean and kept. We have no complaints and wouldn’t change a thing!!! We recommend this place and, if you can, grab SITE 7! It’s perfect!!!
A clean park with 33 RV sites and a number of shaded and unshaded tent sites that offers access to the river for both swimming and boating. Plenty of potable faucets, restrooms and pay showers and there's also a playground for kids to enjoy.
This is not a Washington State park. It is an Army Corps of Engineers park. You should correct the title on this page.
