“historic and public airport”
Cincinnati Municipal Airport – Lunken Field (Cincinnati Municipal Lunken Airport) (IATA: LUK, ICAO: KLUK, FAA LID: LUK) is a public airport in Cincinnati, Ohio, three miles (5 km) southeast of Downtown Cincinnati. It is owned by the city of Cincinnati, Ohio. The airport serves private aircraft and the fleets of local corporations. It is known as Lunken Airport or Lunken Field, after Eshelby Lunken. It is bounded by US Route 50 (historic Columbia Parkway and Eastern Avenue) to the west, US Route 52 (Kellogg Avenue) and the Ohio River to the south, the Little Miami River (which originally flowed through the airfield but was diverted) to the east, and Ohio Route 125 (Beechmont Avenue) to the north. The airport is a hub for small charter airline Flamingo Air and its aviation school.
I love taking the kids here to watch the airplanes. My son, especially, loves watching them take off and land. There is a wonderful walking/biking path around the airport. Its a long circuit, but it goes through some lovely woods, and all around the airfield.
There are also two parks nearby, so if you get tired of walking you can sit down for a bit.
Great bike / running trail around the field, really beautiful pieces of it that go down by the river too. Wish I'd discovered it sooner! It's also a totally doable bike ride from downtown (even better if you stop at Eli's BBQ on your way back!).
Great air show here. Also. There's a 5 mile trail around the field that's great for running, biking, or my personal favorite, rollar blading.
A lot of small planes taking off and landing here. Right by a golf course (Reeves) and a nice running trail. The waiting area before your plane takes off is very nice, too, with complimentary coffee and snacks
