“the only 3-level covered bridge left”
Honey Run Covered bridge is the only 3-level covered bridge left in the nation. It is a wooden covered bridge on Honey Run Road located about halfway in between Chico and Paradise in northern California. The Bridge was originally built in 1886 by George Miller and was later covered in 1894. The bridge crosses Butte Creek and intersects with Centerville Road in Butte County, California. It was open to traffic until a car crashed into it in 1965, causing it to collapse on the eastern span. An alternative steel bridge was built upstream for vehicular traffic; the old bridge is part of a county park and is used by pedestrians.
Honey Run is a local landmark. It's a sturdy ol' bridge that has withstood a lot of potentially disastrous circumstances. I believe it's a dollar or two to park there and there's the bridge. You can not drive on it but you can walk out and imagine all the pioneers driving their wagons across it. If you drive further up the road (take the road to the left at the Y in the road at honey run) and continue up to the steel bridge you can tube down. It can get semi dangerous but most people enjoy it.
Beautiful bridge. Unfortunately it was destroyed in 2018 during the Camp Fire
