“Green before green was cool”
The Chattanooga Nature Center has been living and teaching the principles of conservation, even before “being green” in the Tennessee Valley was the popular thing to do. The Center features included passive solar heating systems, south-facing windows, operable clerestories, R-38 building insulation, breezeways and cooling corridors and other energy saving technologies and landscaping. It also has a broad collection of approximately 50 animals that are native to east Tennessee including endangered and threatened species and species in need of management.
Chattanooga's best kept secret, especially for kids. Take the Driving Loop first, to acclimate yourself. Then, hike one of the 14 miles of trails. My boys also love the animals and the extra large “eagle’s nest” that you can climb in.
