“Lakeside Beach in Chatsworth!”

A scenic drive on Hwy. 52 near the Cohutta Wilderness leads visitors to this mountain getaway.  Hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders will find some of the most beautiful trails in Georgia, winding through hardwood forest and blueberry thickets, crossing streams and circling a pretty lake.  Hikers can also explore a stone fire tower built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and an ancient rock wall which stand on the highest point of the mountain.  The mysterious 855-foot-long wall is thought to have been built by early Indians as fortification against more hostile Indians or for ancient ceremonies.    During summer, visitors can cool off on a lakeside beach, while stables offer guided horseback rides and stall rental throughout the year.  Park guests may stay overnight in fully equipped cottages, a campground or backpacking campsites.

It was so fun staying here! There are really beautiful views along the road and the cabin we stayed in was so cozy, and the people working were friendly :)

We enjoyed our first stay at Fort Mt. State Park very much. Our site was lakeside which can’t be beat. It was colder than expected so we didn’t go kayaking but we did some good hiking. The campground is well maintained. The girls working the shop are super nice. Shout out to Chrissy and her good service. The road is curvy but manageable. We have a 35 ft. class A with a Jeep. Our site could use some more gravel. It was a little bare. The WiFi was down due to maintenance and there is absolutely no cell service. It was ok for the short period we were there. We look forward to going back.

Lovely park on Fort Mountain. Twisty roads to get up to the park and into the campground but doable, even with big rigs. We stayed on the Lakeside Loop and the inner roads are tight and narrow but again, doable. The sites themselves are level and in good shape, many on the lakeside are better suited for tents and smaller rigs. The sites on the Creekside are nice as well, many pull-throughs which seem to be better for larger rigs. There are many lovely trails from the campground that can get you up to the CCC tower and lookout as well as an easy trail around the lake. Mountain bike trails are tough, steep grades. No cell service but enough to text from the site. If you drive to the top of the mountain the service is better. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Very quiet during the week with more folks coming in for Easter weekend, but still very quiet and peaceful.

The park is nice and has some really nice trails to hike, but be aware that not all rv sites with have Verizon cell service.

The trees on the Lakeside campground all were dropping hundreds of acorns day and night. Fortunately, none of them dented our airstream or truck. The campground itself was very small, with very little privacy between sites. There’s a large field at the bottom of the hill where all the kids congregate and play all day long. Fun for families, but not for adults with our kids. The kids noise is constant. The park itself is very cute but not as well kept us other Georgia state parks. Shout out to the people at check-in, who were very patient when we showed up before our reservation. The park is convenient to Dalton, which has a lot of nice new restaurants in the downtown area as well as a great brewery.

This is a nice campground and my first time visiting. Steep highway getting to the park and twisty roads just take it easy on the way to the park. Everyone at check in was very friendly and helpful.

Bathrooms are clean and camp hosts patrol regularly which is fantastic. The facility even has a washer and dryer (coin operated) if you have a need. Sites are gravel and mostly level and the water and electric worked well. There is a dump station near the exit of the campground but not at your site.

I’ll discuss the cell reception since that’s pretty important for me working while on the road. Hope it helps others in the same boat. I have a WeBoost cell booster which helps, so the ratings I provided were with the booster. I still did have some reception without the booster on both ATT and Verizon.

I will visit again!

I’d love to camp here again however we work remote and require cell service. Some sites have cell service and some do not, and our weboost did not help. If you don’t require cell phone access, the views are amazing, and the campground is great. Otherwise iD recommend going elsewhere.

Our site was a great pull thru in the lakeside section. Lots of room for our 30' travel trailer. Gravel on the site.
Other sites were smaller and more difficult to manuveur. Be sure to read site description before reserving.
Bath houses are well maintained. Good water pressure plus nice hot water.
One drawback is the location of the dump station. It is located way up the hill. We use a Blue Tank. Pulling it up the steep bumpy road was difficult.
The swim area is gorgeous. Clean, boat rentals and a concession stand.
Our stay here was relaxing and fun.

This is a nice campground pretty much not near anything. There are several trails from the campground. The site was fairly level and close to the clean bathrooms.
