“It's not just bowling anymore”
Ground broke on Park Lanes in 1958 and the doors officially opened in 1960. Park Lanes was designed by Ferrebee and Walters Architects. At the beginning Park Lanes was purchased by a group of stockholders with Ken Lail being one of them. Over the years Mr. Lail accumulated the the Majority of the stock and by the late 70's was the sole proprietor. George Pappas purchased Park Lanes in January of 1983 and the new name became George Pappas' Park Lanes. In 1984 Park Lanes hosted its first and only National PBA event, the Angle Touring Players Championship. The top 5 players in the step ladder had some of the most popular bowlers of all time. Mark Roth, Marshall Holman, and Pete Weber. Mark Roth went on to capture the title. The event was sponsored by Piedmont airlines who put up $10,000.00. Over the years we have had some local celebrities who have bowled in leagues here at Park Lanes. Ray Gooding Jr, who worked with WBT Radio. Jim Celania, who was a news broadcaster for NBC and currently works with 610am sports radio. Doug Lindsay bowls with us on Tuesday nights and is a weatherman for news 14. You can currently see any number of high profile Charlotteans such as NBA great Dell and Stephan Curry as they have been known to show up for some friendly family competition. This past year we have hosted the Panthers for both charity events and team building as well as the Homeland season wrap party. Lastly, we were very proud to have Gabrielle Douglas, Aly Raisman and Jordyn Wieber, of the Gold Medal winning U.S. Gymnastics squad, stop by to do some bowling and shoot a publicity video.
I've been coming to the Restaurant inside Park Lanes for years. (Even when it was known as George Pappas Park Lanes.) They have great food and a great bar atmosphere. They keep the food and... Read more
Bowling here is always a treat! It's not often you find a bowling alley that is this lively of a bar scene too. The only holdup is that I've never been very impressed with their food. But, i don't... Read more
I love what they've done with the place, but the fact that they are more than willing to cram 7 people on one lane in order to try and drive more revenue is ridiculous. Not to mention the tables... Read more
