“Dishes just like Grandma's in Charleston!”
Nationally acclaimed and locally beloved, Hominy Grill is a Charleston institution serving classic southern specialties that taste just like Grandma used to make (well, if Grandma had known how to cook, that is! But that’s another story….) We don’t open any cans here; all is prepared from scratch with fresh, locally raised ingredients. Chef/proprietor Robert Stehling first learned to cook under Bill Neal at Crook’s Corner in Chapel Hill, NC. He then worked for several years in New York before moving to Charleston where he opened Hominy Grill. He received the prestigious James Beard Best Chef Southeast award in 2008. Featured on Bizarre Foods: America! and in print, Hominy Grill has built a reputation as a place where Charleston cuisine lives. Savvy regulars slip in between the crowds of out of town visitors. This is the food we wished our grandmothers could cook. Hominy Grill feels as though it has been open for generations, in fact this landmark has only been dishing up its simple, clean fare since 1996. Combining the traditions of the past with the bounty of land and sea, James Beard Award winning chef/owner Robert Stehling lets the Low Country’s unique cultural history and flavors guide his cooking.
High-rise biscuits and award-winning shrimp and grits are great for brunch. Read More: http://fathomaway.com/guides/usa/us-south/itineraries/weekend-in-charleston-south-carolina/
Great food-take out is available.
Don't let the weekend crowds scare you off: Hominy Grill is home to Charleston's best vegetable plate. The changing roster of choices is a tribute to the region's ingredients and generations of folk cookery.
