“nothing says Cinco de Mayo like a Chihuahua race!”
The annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration presented by Si Se Puede Foundation honors the Hispanic community's many contributions to the City of Chandler. The festival also features the popular Chihuahua Races and the crowning of the King and Queen Chihuahua.
The running is part of a Cinco de Mayo celebration centered around the dog races, in attempt to help PAWS of Southwest raise funds to build a new dog park.
The races with take place in a two-stage process. Every dog entered will run in a preliminary race and the winner of each prelim will run in the championship round. While the winner gets the big bucks, the second place finisher still receives a $100 prize; third place takes home $50.
It costs $20 to register your Chihuahua to run -- purebred or mixed breed -- but the fun doesn't end there.
For those Chihuahua-less DMV residents, there will also be contests for best dressed and best trick open to dogs of all breeds. So break out those moves and that doggy tutu!
