5400-foot elevation. Named for an old mining community in the area, Bayhorse is ten miles south of Challis on Highway 75. The campground is situated along the Salmon River and provides fishing opportunties and a concrete boat ramp. Fishing in the river for resident cutthroat and rainbow trout, steelhead and whitefish. Road goes west to Bayhorse Lake, near a number of historic mines. The entire area is rich in mining history, and you can use this comfortable campground as your base camp for exploring the Land of the Yankee Fork. Amenities Include: 11 campsites with picnic tables and fire rings; Seasonal Campground Hosts Potable Water (beware of the sprinkler system if tenting); Vault toilets; Garbage collection; Interpretive panels Boat ramp and day use parking area
