“a short walk to the beach & restaurants”
The Faraway Inn is set within a quiet, attractive residential area away from traffic and nightlife, but within a short 5 minute walk past Victorian and traditional Cracker homes to restaurants, convenience stores, shops, boat launches, the public beach and the city dock. Faraway Inn was built in the early 1950's on the original site of the 19th Century Eagle Pencil Company Cedar Mill. All accommodations are ground floor, spread out over half of a city block of shaded flowered gardens. Standard items in each unit include; refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, two pre-packaged coffees with condiments, toaster, alarm clock, radio/CD/DVD player, cable TV, VCR, linens, towels, dishware, cookware. Cottages and efficiencies are equipped with stove/oven. There are many wonderful local restaurants. Enjoy fresh locally caught seafood and aquacultured clams daily. Most restaurants are in walking distance of our Inn, so after dinner you can stroll the dock and walk leisurely alongside the Gulf to your not-so-Faraway home. The night sky offers tremendous stargazing possibilities. We welcome responsible pet owners and well-behaved pets. No size restrictions for dogs, we love them all big and small. Other companion animals like kitty cats and birds are welcome. We have had a few lizards and hamsters too. Pets are allowed on most beaches and in some outdoor seating restaurants.
Well it's absurd to have an envelope for tips for housekeeping when they don't do ANY SERVICE for your room whatsoever if you stay over. I paid $135 for my king room and noticed a tiny sign in the bathroom that said I have to tell a housekeeper if I want fresh towels. I thought this was annoying but I did ask as I left for the day at 1pm and got a snotty reply that this inn doesn't provide any service for stay overs but she would get me towels. I told her that even Motel 6 makes the bed, replaces towels and freshens up the room for stay over guests and they charge about half of what I paid at this place. Almost all hotels from budget to five star also provide free travel sized bottles of shampoo, conditioner and even lotion but don't expect that here either. I asked and got used standard size bottles that had only drops left at the bottom. Breakfast? Ha ha...nope....not even a simple continental one like one gets at a Day's Inn or similar. These people are all about maximum profit for minimum effort. A guaranteed recipe for failure. I have never been so totally disappointed in any hotel in this price range and we travel world wide and frequently. Any other inn on Cedar Key will give you maid service, basic toiletries and breakfast for the same price as Faraway or LESS. GO ANYWHERE ELSE.
