“famous for desserts!”
We're still here loving life in Cayucos. Working hard to make foodies happy & looking forward to making brides merry. Come join us for food & fun!
The little woman and I have been to the Sea Shanty twice. In 2014, we had breakfast. It was OK but nothing to write home about. This year, we went for supper. It was a major disappointment. We were both in full agreement that the food was absolutely flavorless. Well, I shouldn't say that as the clam chowder did have the overwhelming flavor of salt. The clams were like eating little pencil erasers. I had fried shrimp and onion rings that tasted like nothing. The onion rings were well cooked but the shrimp was rubbery with far too much tempura better. The little woman's calamari steak was basically the same just without the batter. Even the bread was barely edible with butter that was more like somebody spread Wesson Oil on it.
This is one of the two remaining full-service restaurants in Cayucos that has a dog-friendly patio. The problem on both of our visits here is that the Sea Shanty insists on cramming so much seating into it (while never opening up their second patio) that it makes things uncomfortable for the customers, their dogs, the servers, and fellow patrons.
I give this place a 2 instead of a 1 because they at least still allow dogs, the beer is cold, the server was top-notch, and the bad seafood at least didn't make me sick. I will be back to Cayucos as it is California's true hidden coastal gem but I will never return to the Sea Shanty.
