“Home of 'the balanced rock'”
Welcome to Balanced Rock County Park and home of the "balanced rock", a large rock balanced atop a much smaller rock. South of Buhl in the Salmon Falls Creek Canyon stands world-famous Balanced Rock. Over 48 feet tall and 40 tons, the wind-carved rock balances precariously on a pedestal only 3 feet by 17 inches. Nearby Balanced Rock Park is an excellent spot for a picnic.
First stop on our trip. Stretch out our legs, and walk the dogs. :)
This is definitely worth the detour. Its a cool rock, and even cooler when you learn it was mostly carved by wind activity. A steep short walk from your car will get you to the base of the rock, and only then can you truly appreciate its enormity. Worth the visit!
I fished here in 2008. It was pretty cool!
I was not that impressed by this.
We went 30 miles out of our way to see this, and frankly were not impressed. Nice little park by the river for a picnic, but the rock failed to wow us.
A bit out of the way but a must see. If you have kids the scenery will remind them of the movies Cars. Quick hike up to the balanced rock was nice to stretch the legs.
This was probably the highlight of my trip this weekend. It was fun hiking up to see it from the top and did some exploring behind it.
A small get away for weekend.
