“A hidden gem near Manitou”

Rainbow Falls is a waterfall located on Fountain Creek in Manitou Springs, Colorado. The falls' plunge is located beneath a bridge that links Manitou Avenue to Highway 24. The trail head to the falls is located on a 180 degree bend in Serpintine Drive, about a half mile off of HWY 24 across from the entrance to the Cave of the Winds. The falls are known for the large amount of graffiti painted on the canyon walls and bridge overpass. Coordinates: 38°52'12.0"N 104°55'33.0"S

We hiked up at 3:30 and found it closed for 4, our fault, but we did have to stop at the small creek - so again, our fault. But, along the way we say transients washing in the creek, a bunch of people "smoking" and it smelled slightly of urine. Then we couldn't even get in. There isn't a lot of parking in the crowded times (we went in June).

Closed off as of June 1 2016 at least to construction. Not sure if wet winter and spring made too much of the ground unstable (I went around the temporary construction fence for a peak and there is indeed some washout). Oh well, Manitou was a good stop anyways for some fudge and stretch my legs.

Set in the quirky yet charming Manitou Springs area, Rainbow Falls is a small series of falls over 5 acres. Once inhabited by a Ute Indian tribe who believed the falls were a special place, Rainbow Falls is said to be named from the rainbow that appears in the spray.

I love this beautiful area. Every so often they clear the rocks and new graffiti pops up. It's an artists artistic outlet. I love coming here right after a good rain with the water rushing and sounding majestic. I recommend coming here to see this place!.

It looks beautiful. Too bad they allowed all the graffiti.

Short, uphill walk under an overpass to a waterfall. Locals have covered everything in graffiti but it's part of the urban charm.
