Danny's Place

We were coming back from the Caverns and couldn't find much open for Sunday supper. About ready to just keep driving when we decided to turn back to give another look and luckily found Danny's. We learned later it is #6 on the respected Paul Kirk's Best American BBQ List.  We understand why - they have super good tender flavorful bbq. Dan had the hefty - seemed like close to 2 lbs. - three meat (brisket, pulled pork and turkey) and Roxanne the more sensible turkey plate (still too much and had to be shared with you know who). All with good tasty thick fries, nicely toasted buttered bread and so-so beans. The sweet teas were huge and had a honey flavor - nice. There were 2 sauces served on the side (spicy-vinegar and the smokey-sweet) mixed together were delicious. We we're saying muffled omgs to each other while tasting the meat. Sunday night the place was bustling. Place seemed filled with locals and fellow travelers who knew how special the place is. This is worth going out of your way for. Service is young fresh and perky - just like the meat. Generous portions! at a great price. We read that Danny used to have a Dairy Queen here and because he felt a calling and deep affection for smoking meats started doing BBQ along with serving soft serve. For a while he & the wife were DQ's only franchise doing that - DQ didn't much care for him being different and maybe Danny didn't much care in return - so they parted ways and Danny's Place was born and looks to be thriving. We're glad they are - Woo Woo!
