This is the second time we have stayed at this campground. For 18 dollars a night you get large spaces, water and electric hookups (dump on site $5.00). This campground is exceptionally clean. The river sites all have a path down to the St. Joe River. Fly fishing is big here. No bait allowed and barbless hooks. Catch and release of certain kinds of fish. The town of Avery is close by and has a few interesting things to see. The home made hamburgers at the store are delish. We did some forest road exploring and hiking. Stop in at the ranger station in Avery and they have a ton of free info. We stayed here in October so after school was back in session and before major hunting season began. No reservations taken but no trouble getting in. The town of St. Maries is about 30 miles away. There was no cell service whatsoever even in Avery. No OTA television stations. Be ready to be unplugged from the outside world. The only negative I can speak of was the logging trucks on the road noise early in the morning. But all the good things about this campground outweigh that for us. I posted some photos. This campground shuts down during the snowy season.

Nice campground located on a wedge of land between the road and the St Joe River. The St Joe River road (50) from St Maries to the campground is a good road, paved wide 2-lane, mostly 55 mph. It has lots of recreation, logging, heavy truck traffic. The CG is forested with shrub understory and grassy areas. Sites are generally well spaced and screened from each other, except for a group of three near the west end. The sites are large with fire ring and picnic table. No tent pads but most sites had mowed grassy areas big enough for a tent. Sites have electric and water. There are several pull-through sites. The 4 first come, first serve sites are pull throughs; the rest are by reservation. Most sites are long enough for long RVs. There is a dump station. Road through the campground is paved, as are the sites. Sites on the south side of the access road are close to the highway and traffic. Although the CG is along the river, many of the river edge sites are not in view of the river, due to vegetation. Sites at the west end have river view and access. There are several vault toilets, which were clean and well stocked. Firewood for sale. Wi-fi near the pump house. No cell service. The hosts were friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Minus one star for proximity to highway and road noise.

This is a great little campground! Arrived just as the host was leaving for the season and BLM was taking over. At this time of the season it’s first come first serve. Group sites at one end and nice individual, paved and level sites in the rest of the campground. Water and electric at each site. Very clean vaulted and shared toilets. It’s very close to the road on one side so a river side site would be preferable. River is beautiful, lots of vegetation along the edge which could make access a little tricky. Deep into hunting season here, hunters camped both here and along the entire stretch of road coming in, so we decided not to do any kind of hiking. A beautiful little river valley, the drive to tiny Avery was pretty, but the places to eat all seemed to be closed though there were lots of hunters in town. There is WiFi near the host site that I was only able to access if I was nearby. There were nice fire pits at each site but there was no available wood at this time. There is a $7 discount off the $23 if you have an America the Beautiful pass bringing it to $16.

This is one of the best public campgrounds I’ve been to. It is so peaceful & serene. All sites are generous size and private. Be aware this campground is remote & there is no cell service but there is limited wifi hotspots in 2 locations in the campground. Come with supplies as it’s quite a drive to grocery or restaurants. Only the first 2-3 sites have river view, all spots are River front but the brush is too thick in most sites to see the water however it is a quick walk less than 5 minutes to get to the river which is incredible. Water & sewer only. Dump station on site. Public toilet only no shower but very clean. Camp host was so kind & helpful.

We stayed here last year in May (during spring run off), and then later on in July. We loved it both times! During the May spring run off, it was so nice to hear the moving water. Since it was warm outside, we even opened our windows at night, just to hear the water. In July, we loved taking our path down to our own private river access. Most of the river sites have river access, which one reason this is a popular campground.

We took a humming bird feeder and had 4 birds vying for the nectar. The sites are large, grassy, and private. There is electricity and water at each site, and a dump station for the campground. The outhouses are clean, which is greatly appreciated.

Something to note: all of the campgrounds along the St Joe River are next to the highway. And, this is a logging community, so you are going to have logging trucks. The St Joe is also a favorite area for those living in Northern Idaho, so you will also have lots of traffic. If you plan on staying along the river, you are going to have some noise. If you know this in advance, its easy to deal with.

Also be aware that there is basically no cell phone service up the entire St Joe River. Come prepared to be unplugged. There are also zero gas stations unless you go up to Avery.

This is an extremely popular campground. It often fills, so I recommend making reservations in advance. Get a river site, if possible.

We camped here with a 22 foot RV, but saw several larger RVs. We also saw several people in tents.

The campground just re-opened for the 2023 the day before we arrived on 9/2/23. Camp host said they did some renovating. It is not busy at all and overall relaxing. W/E hookup, Site 29 is the closest to the dump station. Site 28 probably has the best view and access to the river overall in my opinion but I feel like you will have people walking in and out of your site all the time. Completely no cell service but has the best WiFi! Great and kind camp hosts!
Oh and by the way... they have the cleanest vaulted toilet I've ever seen!
We will be back!
