“Buffalo's home for Broadway shows”
Shea's Performing Arts Center is a theater for touring Broadway musicals and special events in Buffalo, New York. Originally called Shea's Buffalo, it was opened in 1926 to show silent movies. It took one year to build the entire theatre. Shea's boasts one of the few theater organs in the US that is still in operation in the theater it was designed for. Shea's Mission: To restore and maintain Shea's Buffalo Theatre for present and future generations to enjoy as a working, historic theatre providing a wide variety of live performing arts experiences for our patrons and innovative and effective educational experiences fostering an appreciation of live theatre by area youth. Performing Arts Center and National Historic Site. Presenter of touring Broadway musicals, concerts, dance, comedy, Free Family Film Series, educational programs, and special events.
Shea's is a really beautiful theatre to see plays and musicals in. I saw Rent there a few years ago and it was an awesome experience.
Striking architecture. Building is in need of some cosmetic refurbishing - velour seating covers are old and matted Slight difficulty with audio during performance. Love there are scattered seats in lobby to sit. Staff helpful. An over abundance of volunteers. Need to find a better way to handle late arrivals. Bought tickets day of performance and was told areas of interest were completely sold out. Not true at all. There was a substantial number of open seats. Would return anytime
This is by far my favorite place in Buffalo, New York!
