northern Kitsaps other less famous lighthouse was originally built in 1965 only for personal use, but when its creator left the signal light on one night the coastguard intervened and eventually it passed inspection and became an official navigation aide. In 1971, a group of twenty people organized as the Skunk Bay Lighthouse Association bought it and continue to maintain it to this day. Public access to the site is not permitted but it can be appreciated from the water.
