This was easy to find by typing in slot canyon on google maps and up popped slot canyon trail head. It is about two miles up a dirt road for the last little bit. It is narrow so go slowly enough that you can pause or take advantage of side spots to pass people coming the other way.
At the actual parking lot there is limited parking and it isn’t marked so try not to park in a place that blocks anyone in. I would try to go early. We got there 11:30 or so and I felt that was later than I wished though doable. There are outhouses at the parking lot but no water so bring your own.
There aren’t really any maps or good signs. Upon entry to the parking lot, the trail you want is to your right. It does have a single sign up a ways that says trail. That is it. There appeared to be other trails from the parking lot but I don’t know what for because there weren’t any signs or maps.
The slot canyon is an out and back. You can kind of tell when the slot ends and that is when you should turn around. Someone told us they thought it was a loop so we went further to where there were some signs and the trail became muddled. The signs faced the other way and said no vehicles. There is no loop. But out and back it is short. Maybe a mile or so out and back. We took forever going because my kids wanted to climb lots of books and crannies and we followed one side path up a ways. We saw one other but didn’t take it.
Even at its thinnest, there is sufficient room for a full sized adult with a bag.
With all the logistics out of the way, this was really beautiful and very kid friendly. My kids climbed and hid and had a really great time.
Cool spot. Interesting short hike. Be sure to check the trail and save it to your phone before you go. There is no cell service and the turn come back around the canyon rim is not clearly marked. Limited parking in the small lot. Go early!
This was EXTREMELY difficult to find..after almost 2 hours of driving in circles in Borrego Springs we finally found Buttes Pass which leads to Slot Canyon. The Slot was pretty cool and eventually opened up to a beautiful view of the mountains.
