“lakeshore love!”
Activities include (unsupervised) swimming and fishing in the man-made lake, built in 1935, as well as camping, picnicking, mountain biking and boating (5 mph speed limit). Bonham State Park is a 261-acre park located in Fannin County northeast of Dallas. It includes a 65-acre lake, rolling prairies and woodlands. The park was constructed in the early 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The land was acquired in 1933 from the City of Bonham, and the park was opened in 1936. The park is situated in the Blackland Prairies region of Texas. The terrain is dominated by grassland interspersed by woodlands. More luxuriant woodlands occur along water courses and the lake's shoreline. Although the park's grasslands are no longer pristine, they are recovering nicely and have small areas dominated by little bluestem and bushy bluestem. The woodlands are composed of Texas oak, eastern red cedar, bois d'arc and eve's necklace, with sugarberry, cottonwood, black willow and green ash becoming more common along the creeks and lakeshore. Numerous wildflowers and flowering shrubs cover the gently rolling prairie in the spring, and stands of cedar and mixed hardwoods provide a panorama of multicolored leaves in the fall. Wildlife is limited because of the relatively small size of the park. However, the lake shoreline provides habitats for beaver, raccoon, opossum and a number of visiting songbirds. Although a few woodland birds are permanent residents, visitor and migrant species outnumber the residents.

It snowed and was only 30 degrees but we had water and electric so it felt pretty luxurious compared to boondocking. I suspect in the summer it’s more crowded and harder to book. I’d stay here again anytime! I didn’t visit the restrooms but they were reportedly heated and had showers. Only about 4 miles out of Bonham.

For our first RV camping trip of 2018 we took a short drive north to Bonham State Park right outside of Bonham, Texas. This great little Texas State Park was constructed by the CCC back in the 30's. There are plenty of things for a family to do while camping at Bonham State Park! Hiking, fishing, boat rental and best of all Smors cooked over a roaring camp fire!
At every Texas State Park you can check out fishing equipment from the front office and you do not have to have a fishing license! Bonham State Park takes the fishing to a whole new level by providing boats so you can get out to where the fish are hiding!
The RV "loop" is all gravel with not a whole lot of space between sites. On the upside water access is very easy. This park is not ADA compliant and very difficult for the mobility challenged to navagate. I have posted 2 YouTube Videos in the Blogs.

We really enjoyed our first stay here. The park is small, but located on a pretty little lake. Our kids (4 and 6) loved it. The lake loop trail around the lake was about 1 mile and the kids enjoyed walking it. They also liked being able to fish practically from our campsite and the dock was just a short walk away. The campsites are nice and level and well maintained and the bathroom is clean. The only real downside to this park is the campsites are squeezed together and you really have no privacy. Also, they don’t sell firewood or ice at the campground. The drive to town is only about 5-10min but we did have to hunt to find a place that sold firewood. Another thing of note if you have smaller kids, is the playground is only a swing set. But overall a nice, well kept park and we would camp here again.

This was our 2nd visit here. Only 12 of the sites are RV accessible. All 12 sites are in 1 small loop so you can talk to actual people instead of technology. We met some of the nicest families. We arrived on Thursday and had our choice of any site, but all sites filled up over the weekend. Now Texas state parks reservations require specific site selection.
There are some mountain bike trails along with some other pedestrian trails. The road around the lake makes a nice walk.

I am a Texan but only stay in our State Parks when we must as they are way overpriced but Texas seniors get a BIG $2.00 off, go stay at any of the COE parks if you can. In fact the State Parks in all three of the surrounding states are a lower cost. This park is small but OK if you half to stay overnight.

Stayed at Bonham State Park for 5 nights. Verizon/Visible cell service was good, until the night of a big wind storm which made service across all providers (tmobile, att, verizon) struggle for about 24 hours. Suspect a tower had issues.
The campground has nice showers and bath houses, small sites with gravel. Only sites 1&2 are full hookups but we had 50a service. Close to town for any needs there and some nice trails to walk. All sites have some view of the lake. Playground, pavilion nearby under a pergola, a little floating dock for boats.
Great place to visit, would come back if we need to be in the area.

This is a small park about an hour and a half from Dallas, perfect for a quick get away. We were planning on staying 5 nights but the winter weather had other plans. The sewer system is not shut down as it says on this page. The sites are close together in a small area and there are only two full hookup sites. The restrooms/showers were some of the nicest I have seen in a state park, were heated and very clean. The small campground has a clear view of the lake. There is a volleyball pit, a concrete pavilion with shaded picnic tables, a basketball goal, and a swing set, all next to the CCC built park office. The trails map shows some nice hiking trails but we did not have a chance to check any of them out.

This is e smallest state park in Texas but it is one of our favorites. The sites are close together and site on a large beaver pond. Despite it being small the campground is cozy and quiet.

This is one of those campgrounds that corrals all the RVs in a tight space, I guess for the sake of not running electrical lines too far. Everyone but us seemed to be hanging out for a while, though I can't imagine why you'd want to drive all the way out here to sit in your trailer 8 ft from the next trailer, which was about the separation in the "lakeside" spots (we had more room up the hill a bit). The bathrooms (a fair distance from the campsites) had that stinky toilet odor, super slippery tile with no rubber matting, and wall mold, for an apparently new-ish structure. Absolutely no place to sit your soap, even. First site we tried was too unlevel to park, but we got reasonably level at the next. 2 bars Verizon and some OATV. The charms of the park weren't really apparent from the RV portion of the campground. The tent camping was much more bucolic looking,
