“Nature Center, Sea Turtle Rehabilitaion Center, Aquariums, Nature Trails”
Founded in 1984, Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is a unique cooperative project of the City of Boca Raton, Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District, The Palm Beach County School District, Florida Atlantic University (FAU), and Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, Inc. Each year, more than 100,000 local and tourist visitors receive valuable environmental education while enjoying respite from the city bustle. As a beacon for environmental education, research, and conservation, Gumbo Limbo’s 20 acres of protected barrier island not only provides refuge to many varieties of plants and animals - some rare or endangered - but represents a commitment to protect our natural resources by our members, volunteers, and the organizations that comprise the Center. Recently, the preservation of our natural environment and wildlife resources has been recognized as a national concern for all of our families. You can join us in our mission to increase public awareness of our coastal and marine ecosystems and support our educational, conservation, and research efforts by becoming a Member of Friends of Gumbo Limbo.
Amazing place for anyone, all they ask if for donations. great nature trail and tanks with sea turtles and fish amazing adventure right off the beach !
This was a phenomenal center with tons of information and friendly staff. They ask for a $5 donation per person, but I believe that the experience is worth more. There are turtles to view in captivity with back stories and expected release dates. The butterfly garden is neat and if you look closely, you can see tree crabs crawling around the forest floor. Watch out for the spiders on the boardwalk. They're large and in charge (but harmless)! We spent about 2 hours here and enjoyed ourselves the whole time. Don't hesitate to ask questions - the staff is wonderful and very knowledgeable.
It's a beautiful nature center to visit on your Florida road trip. There are two large aquariums and two smaller ones. The staff and volunteers are very friendly and eager to help answer any questions.
This place is free with suggested donation. And really you should donate considering the great work they do rehabilitating turtles. Awesome display of aquatic wildlife. Come when they start feeding at noon.
