Newspaper Rock Recreation Site

Really amazing petroglyph site - far more impressive than many you see in some of the neighboring national parks.

I stopped here on the way back from a backpacking trip in the Needles, but this time it was on a road trip with my son. It wasn't out of the way from our camping area in the Abajo Mts. My son is almost 7, and this petroglyph panel has great contrast from the "desert varnish" so it's easier for younger kids to see than other panels around. There is so much going on in the panel, it was very interactive for a kid. We played "I spy" finding different carvings and I would ask him why someone would think to carve that for others to see.
