“blending a bit of the old with the new”
By blending a bit of the old with the new. owner Shannon Gober has transformed the Downtown Birmingham landmark John's Restaurant into the new and improved John's City Diner. While the restaurant still maintains much of the charm from the past. the décor and menu have undergone a faoelift to meet the needs of the increasingly food sawy Birmingham public. The menu at John's City Diner features a wide range of flavors from Southern comfort food to Asian- inspired dishes.
A group of 12 was seated shortly before we arrived and I was concerned about the service we'd get. Have to say wait staff handled it well and we had good service. Had the mac/cheese appetizer followed by trout for my wife and I had the "famous" meatloaf with a side of collard greens. Many dishes came with sides but you can freely substitute. The trout, mac/cheese, and greens were very good. The meatloaf had a good crust but seem to lack flavor.
