“Maine's oldest diner!”
The Palace Diner was built in 1926 by the Polard brothers of Lowel, MA. As it was being constructed, someone walked by and asked with a wry grin, “What are ya’ buildin’ there, a little palace?” The name stuck. Palace Diner was brought to Franklin St. in Biddeford and has been continuously operated there since 1927. It was bought and first opened by Louis LaChance, and has been owned exclusively by families ever since. After the LaChances it was owned by the Beaudoins, the Berniers, the Quins and is now owned by the Capotostos. Folks who have come back since visits “back in the day” have reveled in how clean it still is and how the food is, “just like it used to be”.
