“Beautiful Views of the Mississippi!”
Picnickers at the Nelson Unit can enjoy beautiful views of the Mississippi River. Open picnic shelters may be reserved for a fee. The lodge is an ideal spot for group events such as wedding receptions and family events and is available on a reservation basis. The lodge and open shelters may be reserved online through the park reservation system. The Dyas Unit has 46 camping units (31 with electrical hookups), modern rest rooms, showers and a sanitary dumping station. Advance campsite reservations can be booked through the park reservation system. Half of the campsites are still available for self-registration on a first-come, first-serve basis. Camping is not allowed in the Nelson Unit. In the Nelson Unit, four trails provide a variety of hiking opportunities. One trail leads out to scenic overlook of the Mississippi, one winds past Indian burial mounds, one wanders through a restored prairie and a "Garden Sanctuary for Butterflies", and one takes you past an old limestone rock quarry. The Dyas Unit encompasses almost 4 miles of foot trails, scenic overlooks, a stream with beaver dams, and aquatic and other wildlife. In winter, bald eagles concentrate to feed near the open waters below Lock and Dam 12. Pileated woodpeckers are occasionally seen in isolated areas.

Beautiful views of Mississippi River from walking trails! Sites are decent size. Plenty of shade. 1/4 mile off Hwy on gravel to paved entrance.
I think if we were here when it is less buggy, we would enjoy it much more (4 weeks ago, there were no leaves on the trees and suddenly everything was in bloom!) First - if you approach from the north, you will see signs for the park that say no camping! But then there is a sign that says camping is two miles down the road, however, the sign is very easy to miss and we passed it. Sites are nice and spaced a decent bit apart. Site 15 has a nice shade tree. Bathrooms and showers are clean but there are no hooks in the bathrooms to hang towels or toiletries and the bathrooms are separate from the showers. The building has a cement walkway around it but you have to walk through the grass to get there. Beautiful overlooks from paved walking trails. Camp hosts were very friendly.

I live not too far away in Clinton Iowa, my wife and I love riding down the Mississippi river' we decided to stop here at Bellevue State Park, we had visited it a few times without our motorhome, we always kept saying we were going to stay here a few days the bathrooms and shower are modern they are probably about 5 to 7 years old they're in great shape there is a young lady a gentleman that works on the sites cleaning cutting trees if you have any questions they're very well informed there's another lady that's the Ranger, I believe her name is Amy she checks the area and if you have any questions she loves to tell you about the area, the sites are relatively level a couple of sites can, common date long 46 ft Plus motorhomes or fifth wheelers, about a mile is Bellevue a small little quite Rivertown has a nice coffee shop breakfast and you must see the Potters Mill Restaurant, built in the mid-1800s if you get there before 5pm they will let you go up the stairs and look how the mill was built, there are plenty of pictures and stories about the building it's quite something to see music on Fridays and Saturdays the food is Cajun New Orleans style, there's a park just a little down to block that you can get a view of the river and the town quite awesome. There are two ways to access the park one is two miles of dirt road try to avoid that one, the one North of that road is about quarter mile that would be the best one to go in, to keep your Campers or motorhomes nice and clean.

We stayed at this campground on our way to South Dakota. It was clean and spacious. Our site was a pull through site. Very little privacy between sites.
Make sure you enter bellevue dyas campground into your gps to get to the correct location!
We visited The national Mississippi River museum and aquarium & the fenelon place elevator while we were here, both we would recommend!

Small state campground with beautiful views overlooking the bluffs. Very clean and well kept. Sites on the smaller side. Long gravel road if you enter from the south. Entrance from the north short gravel road. The campground is in the Dayes entrance.

I didn’t understand how close the campsites are at this park. Very little space between and no foliage ther are trees along the edges. We were I. Site 10 which is in the middle layer of the rings. Those roads are one small camper wide. The site above use looks down into our site. Kind of creepy. T-Mobile cell only.
This is a been there done that place to us. Won’t be back

LAST STOP of 2 month trip. Bellevue State Park, IOWA, site 7, $16/ night, 5/31-6/2/23, elec only. Interesting state park as there are 2 parts, the campground is in the Dyas unit, about 2 miles further down the hwy. The campground is very spacious for a small one. Nice gravel sites, grass and trees, plus a clean, newer bathhouse. The state park has 2 overlooks to the Mississippi River and a really nice butterfly flower garden. Sure wish more flowers were blooming. Have lunch at the historic Mill in Bellevue ( great bbq n Cajun) and check out the new Chocolate and Bakery Shop in town. Excellent riverwalk too.

I was here in early November. Only two other people in the campground. Pit toilets were open but no flush toilets or showers. Winter rate for no electric was $6.00.
