“like staying with friends”
First, find your porch. If you arrive at Anchorage 1770 in the morning, take a cup of coffee out the front door to a seat. Midday? Claim your own shaded Carolina Hanging Bed on the 3rd floor porch beneath the smooth whir of the ceiling fans. And if you pull up to this 250-year-old Federalist-mansion-turned-modern-day-boutique-inn while the cocktail hour is still young, go all the way to the Top Deck where the only things more inviting than the honor bar are the near-constant breeze off the Beaufort River and near-panoramic views casting above the palmetto and oak trees and out over historic Bay Street and beyond. This place has seduced the property’s owners since 1770, when a plantation owner first built the mansion. Through more than two dozen decades, this historic structure has played many roles, but its most inviting is the current iteration, owned by Frank and Amy Lesesne, who bought it in 2014 and completely renovated and transformed it into a 15-room inn.
