“At the Roller Works Family Skating Center”
Yes, one of the wonders of the modern World giant roller skate made entirely of wood and plaster - graces the side of Highway 17 (referred to as Marsh Road along this stretch of Virginia highway) in Bealeton, Virginia. Bealeton is a census-designated place in Fauquier County, found at the intersection of State Route 28 and Highway 17. Bealeton is also home to one of the last barnstorming air shows in the US - but more about that later. Seems like the perfect place to stop for a break, perhaps skate for a bit - and could there be a better photo op?
It's still here! Quirky roadside photo op, exactly the type of thing that makes Roadtripper great!
definitely not big. but its literally right on the freeway
Not as big as i thought it would be, but its just kooky enough to demand a stop if you are nearby! =)
This is about the size of an SUV & is in front of a church now
We have driven by and snapped photos over the past several years on our way to the OBX. It really isn't that big, but we skate competitively (so a little biased), and it's supposedly "the world's largest". At any rate, there are fewer pieces of Americana such as this. Enjoy it while you can. The landlord forced the rink to close, but hopefully, the skate will continue to be a roadside attraction.
Big enough to sit on top of and it looks like it was fixed. Was definitely a fun stop for a quick leg stretch!
Right off the highway. In rough shape. Propped up by wooden planks. Would stop again just because it's so easy to get to.
