The Lyric Opera House is a music venue in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. The building was modeled after the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, and it was inaugurated on October 31, 1894, with a performance by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Australian opera singer Nellie Melba as the featured soloist. Since hosting its first performance in 1894, the Lyric Opera House of Baltimore has been an integral part of Maryland's arts and cultural scene. Not only is the theater a cultural and architectural landmark, but a world landmark when judged in terms of its sound. The acoustics of the hall are world-renowned, and conductors and performers alike have attested to this fact. Baltimore's Lyric Opera House has had a steady stream of great moments since 1894 and will continue to be the cultural and entertainment capital of the state of Maryland.
