Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on May 31, 2019I stopped here for a night while traveling from Denver to Reno. In mid-October, the fall colors are beautiful, and it is around 40°F overnight.
Unfortunately not accessible for RVs and trailers, but we had a car and tent and it worked great. Site has a picnic table, fire ring, and vault toilet. No running water, so bring some or have a filter!
Availability was not an issue and we found the location easily. We saw only two other cars. I'm guessing this is because of the off-season. I stayed with my mother, and we had no issues as a group of 2 women. I would likely have felt safe here alone as well.
Was looking for somewhere to stop for the night and accidentally ended up at one of the most beautiful campsites I've been to!!

We stayed at second campsite up the road. About 7 miles from the highway. Road in is excellent gravel, even in wet conditions. Parking for one rig. We easily fit 23’ Sprinter. Next to. Reek with picnic table fire pit and your own maintained pit toilet! Very little traffic on road while we were there (2 vehicles). Hiking trails further up the road as well as additional campsites.

The Squirrel Springs Campsites are about 9 miles from Highway 487 along a narrow dirt road. We past 2 or 3 already taken spots and a group site before reaching these sites. There are two sites next to each other and a pit toilet. We stayed at the one nearest the bathroom.
This was a pretty nice site with a picnic table and fire ring with grill grate. This was a pretty good site to crash for free, although the dirt road was tedious. Beware this is also at a higher elevation than the Lehman Caves area. We woke up to a couple inches of snow.
