“learn about how petrified wood gets petrified!”
This visitor's center is a great starting point if you're new to Petrified Forest National Park. It has exhibits and information on the incredible fossils, and provides easy access to many of the park's best trails! Enter from the South entrance and go first to the visitor center. The movie is very good and gives you a good lesson in how petrified wood was formed. The best part is the various walks of different lengths that you can take from the visitor center. All of the paths are paved and offer incredible close-up views of the beautiful wood. The colors are incredible and change with the time of the day, brightness of the sun (or not), and even the angles at which you are looking at them.
What a waste of time. I was expecting so much more. Very disappointing.
This was a "store" or perhaps building is a better term at the very end of the trail for the desert and forest... unfortunately it was closed by the time we finished the loop :(
Amazing park to explore, wish we had more time will definitely come back for couple days in the future.
