The Little Colorado River is a tributary of the Colorado River in the U.S. state of Arizona, providing the principal drainage from the Painted Desert region. Together with its major tributary, the Puerco River, it drains an area of about 26,500 square miles (69,000 km2) in eastern Arizona and western New Mexico. Although it stretches almost 340 miles (550 km), only the headwaters and the lowermost reaches flow year-round. Between St. Johns and Cameron, most of the river is a wide, braided wash, only containing water after heavy snowmelt or flash flooding. The lower 40 miles (64 km) of the Little Colorado forms one of the largest arms of the Grand Canyon, at over 3,000 feet (910 m) deep where it joins the Colorado near Desert View in Grand Canyon National Park.
This is actually the Colorado River and it is located at Lees Ferry. The water is FREEZING (62 degrees F) but it was beautiful. It was not as blue as this picture, but still pretty.
This "stop" was a let down. Are there are 2 colorado rivers? Yes. Is the one in Arizona the correct one to see the milky blue water at? Yes. However, there are also TWO little colorado rivers and only ONE has the milky blue water and it is NOT this one. The milky blue water is only available AFTER the gorge at the Grand Canyon and you can ONLY see it by going onto the indian reservation through the village of Supai which requires a 10 mile hike, a helicopter ride, or horse back riding to get to. It is available to swim in and explore, but you have to be a reserved camper only!
While I've not been there and cant rate it properly I cannot figure out how to leave a comment on the posted rate from 4 years ago but this is not Lee's Ferry, that is in Marble canyon. This is south of there and I posted a picture of the map to prove it. Cant wait to go sometime it looks amazing!
this location is inappropriately tagged. Those pictures belong tho another section of the Colorado River much south by the 64 highway
