“Places in Austin, NV”
Surrounded by water birch, cottonwood, and Russian olive trees at the mouth of a canyon along a creek. Stream runs through the campground. 5 units and 1 group. Big Creek Campground is located about one mile west of Austin. Take US 50 West. Approximately one mile from Austin, take the Big Creek Campground turnoff. Continue south for 12 miles on Forest Service Road 002.
A true little green oasis in the Great Basin, sheltered from the wind, and beautiful views up the canyon towards the snowy mountain tops. Be prepared for a long slow drive though. The 12 mile approach from the US-50 is only paved for the first 2 miles, but it is doable with a regular car, just take your time. Not suitable for RV's over 25 feet. Camping is free.
Despite the name the creek is small and hard to fish, due to the lush vegitation surrounding it.
