“Atlanta's favorite live music venue”
Established in 1989, The Masquerade is a live music venue located in the old fourth ward near downtown Atlanta, GA. Housed in the former DuPree Excelsior Mill building, The Masquerade features three indoor stages across it’s three levels, appropriately named Heaven, Hell and Purgatory as well as The Masquerade Music Park, an open air amphitheater located directly behind The Masquerade.
This is one of the best venues I attend. The address is incorrect - the only location is being demolished and it has been moved to Kenny's Underground.
The best address to use to park is 75 MLK JR Drive, Atlanta. This will bring you to the parking garage connected to the venue. The venue entrance is on the 3rd floor. It is very convenient no matter what floor you park on. Depending on day of the week, parking varies. Can range from $5 - $20. I swear it depends on their mood.
Venue contains three venues within a venue. When you go to the stages you come downstairs from the garage. You enter a comfortable courtyard where they usually have beer and hot dog carts set up. It is relaxing to sit or stand out there. The big courtyard is the smoking area as well.
To the right you will find the largest of the 3 stages, HEAVEN. Heaven is a medium size venue with a small stage. They have oversold this venue on multiple occasions. If you are short like me, but do not fight to the front to ride the rail like I do, you may have difficulty seeing as the stage is not raised that high. I suggest getting there early, don't drink a lot of water or beer so you do not lose your spot. All venues are genre neutral, however, heavy metal presence does exist.
Merch booths will be set up by the entry and there are two bars - one located on each side.
HELL stage is the medium venue of the 3 and my favorite. The sound in there is amazing! The stage is raised for all to see. It is small and intimate. There is a smaller upstairs balcony. Interior sort of rustic. Most bands in this venue do not have VIP, they come out and meet after. Merch booths located to immediate let upon walking down the stairs. One bar located to the back right after walking down the stairs.
PURGATORY Stage is the smallest and it is very small and intimate.
If you get to see you favorites in Purgatory or Hell - you are in for a treat. The crowds there are regulars. You will see and hang with the same people at most shows. The Rock community is very serious & they are the coolest group of people I have had the pleasure of metaling on with.
