“Camping near Mount Rainier National Park”

Mounthaven Resort offers 9 family friendly cabins and 16 RV sites on 7 beautiful acres of towering cedars with two mountain creeks and a pond. Escape to this quiet refuge just 1/2 mile from the Nisqually entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park. Relax and enjoy the peaceful, natural surroundings. The original structure at Mounthaven was built in 1920 by Ann Billings and a carpenter friend. It served as both residence & a vacation home to Ann and her 5 daughters until 1932. With the depression in full swing, and needing a source of income, Ann turned the home into a boarding house and began to build rental cabins. Originally known as Billings Lodge, the property has seen a number of ownership and name changes over the years.

We'd seen reviews of Mounthaven on other sites, where people felt like—for the money—this place was just not worth it.

It was pricey-a couple hundred dollars plus for four nights—but it was also a beautiful little family style place that was just outside of the National Park and within walking distance to a couple of cute restaurants.

Moss-laden cabins and heavily shaded RV spots living beneath some sizable redcedars. A simple but effective playground. Dirt roads and little paths all around to explore. We met quite a few of our fellow campers (the sites are rather close together). We were in site 11 and had good enough connection with their wifi for me to work.

AT$T and Verizon were about a giant zero. Unless you've got US Cellular, this is one of the very few places you can get connected anywhere near the west or south sides of Rainier, and much better than Packwood's RV park in my ever so humble opinion.

The cute couple running the place were extremely nice and not too strict about things, unusual for a place like this.

And there you have it.

This is a wonderful, cozy and wooded resort. It does not feel like an rv park at all. We had a lovely spot with picnic table right out our door. We had full hook ups, and the resort had a very clean restroom with shower. Also laundry was available.
The owners could not have been nicer or more accommodating.
If you wanted firewood, all one needed to do was tell the owners, and their young son had it delivered to your trailer very soon.

The resort is located right outside Rainier, so it is just minutes to enter the park.

I would definitely come back and stay again.

No cell coverage, but wi-fi was good during the day.

Hi all.
We really loved it here. We visited probably one of the last good weekends of the Fall, the end of October. The campground was is small and when we visited very quiet. Maybe half full on Friday and even fewer people on Saturday.
The campground is not a ‘resort’ but the location is great and it is a mix of cabins and RV spots. We stayed in RV site 17. I peaked into some of the vacant cabins and most are newer and they looked super cute. Less than 1/2 mile to Nisqually entrance. It is a forested mountain setting. Not fancy. Big trees, mossy and mostly shaded. The team running the campground were wonderful and very accommodating. They allowed us to pick a new site at check in that was more secluded and a later check out. Granted it was pretty empty so they may not always be able to do that. The biggest PRO was location- Mt Rainier is awesome and we had a great visit. The biggest CON- one shared restroom. One shared shower. Thankful that it wasn’t busy so not a big deal while we were there but could present a problem in the summer season.

While we were in town, we walked the dogs at Ashford County park. It was a great spot to exercise them before heading to the Mountain. And the rest of our time we were at Rainier.
PS good WiFi

Happy travels

Great spot been here forever but not cheap. Laundry machine was broken so they let use use the office washer and dryer for free! Full hookups and they have cute cabins for rent (probably expensive). Great WIFI never had an issue with speed but the care taker says it does slow down when they’re full during the summer. 2 bars LTE was adequate but WIFI was quicker. 45 min drive to Paradise lodge on Mt Rainier. Close to Elbe a cute little town with old trains, great pizza and don’t forget Morton 35 min away for groceries. Forget Seattle it was horrible...

This is a really nice, small RV park (16 sites). Full hook-ups. Mount Ranier NP right up the road.
Flat sites. Super quiet. Clean. Patrons respectful of each other and surroundings.
Also has small cabins.
Laundry is one washer and dryer. Plus 2 showers. Clean. Plenty of hot water.
Decent WiFi. (Probably not for working)

pros: clean bathrooms & showers with hot water, water spigot at site, private/secluded tent sites, laundry, NO service but wifi worked really well, right outside of mt rainier np

cons: power went out one night so the wifi shut off & the campground hosts were barely in the office

Pros:
VERY close to Rainier. Like a minute away. Pretty area. Nice campground. Some road noise, but mostly pretty quiet.

Cons:
Wifi was in and out. When it was working the speed was all over the map. Not a huge deal on its own, but there is almost no cell signal here and too much tree cover for satellite internet to work, so you're depending on the provided wifi for connectivity.

They have laundry onsite, but only one washer and dryer. We were there for a week and the dryer was out of order the whole time. Not a huge deal on its own, but when you're travelling in an RV, you don't have room to hang things to dry. Even if you did, you're in the PNW and it's too damp for them to dry anyway. Big disappointment when you've been on the road a while and the laundry is a primary reason to book the place. (Note: I spoke to someone at the office about this. They said they rent the machines and are not allowed to work on them. All they can do is put in a work order. I totally understand. But when it's something people count on... No apology, no "let me give you some free firewood or a 10% discount on your stay," no nothing.)

Firewood was something like $7 for a small bundle. You had to pay another $2 or $3 for a bundle of kindling. Ouch.

The cons may seem like nothing big, but add up when you're paying much  more than the other parks in the area.

PS - Nearby Himalayan restaurant (Wildberry) is excellent.
