“alongside the scenic Rio Grande”
A small grouping of hot springs that forms a small pool alongside the Rio Grande, open only when the river is low. Located along the spectacular canyon of the Rio Grande, Black Rock Hot Springs is a fun place to visit. Black Rock consists of a small collection of hot springs bubbling into the Rio Grande, which volunteers have captured into one rather large soaking pool. Depending upon river level, the pool can be quite deep (4 feet at times). During the winter, and especially during spring runoff, the hot water will be completely inundated by cold river water and impossible to locate. The pool frequently gets washed out, too. The roads may be too difficult during the wet winter and spring months. Black Rock is fairly well known and easy to reach, so don’t expect to have it to yourself. Be sure to practice good hot-spring etiquette when visiting. Primitive. The only improvement has been the continual reconstruction of the rock pool that holds the hot-spring water. In the springtime these pools are generally washed out.
This place is pretty magical! A great find! The app will route you to a ledge to nowhere. Keep following the road sown the hill toward the bridge sign. Then keep going some more down the sketch road lol it’s stable, Go slow. You will come upon two bridges. Cross them both. Once you cross the metal bridge, go left up the hill to the first little parking lot. There’s a hike down to the hot springs. It’s a decent hike, but easy enough time manage. The two pools are right next to the river so you can transition from hot to cold. It’s invigorating! Clothing optional.
