“The seat of government for New York since the 1880s.”
The building is a marvel of late 19th-century architectural grandeur, built by hand of solid masonry over a period of 32 yrs. Tours available
The building and architecture was off the charts. So intricate and elaborate! The tour is definitely worth the time because they really do go over all the little details that you wouldn’t otherwise know if you did the self guided option. Highlights for us, governors hall, the flag room and the senate assembly, the stairways and various hallways just to name a few!
Heads up if it’s your first time, go to visitor parking because the GPS wants to take you to the front of the building so we had to do a big loop around as it’s a one way. Also, the building connects to museums, library’s, convention center, the egg ect…that being said, once you get off the elevators, follow the signs (on the ceiling) to the actual state capitol building. It took us a moment to catch our bearings because it’s like a little city in there with restaurants, barber shop, gift shops ect. Plus they had vendors set up with tables so lots going on the day we went. Worth the trip for sure!
This was a nice little place to see some history and the weather in June was perfect! Good area to stroll around.
Absolutely gorgeous
