“also known as the Roadrunner Campground”
Nestled in the Tularosa Basin, this KOA is the perfect location to use as a base camp while exploring the beauty and attractions of southern New Mexico. With RV Sites, Tent Sites and Cabins, the campground can accommodate every type of traveling camper. Mild winters make Alamogordo a wonderful place to escape cold northern climates - be sure to ask about winter rates. A large rec room and long, covered outside patio work great for group events. Take a break from the desert heat in the inviting pool. Enjoy hiking or sand sledding down the vast gypsum dunes at White Sands National Monument, a short 15-mile drive from the campground. Learn about New Mexico's role in the U.S. space program through interactive exhibits at the New Mexico Museum of Space History. Explore ancient rock drawings at the Three Rivers Petroglyph Site, just 30 miles north. Or you can take a stroll through the Alameda Park Zoo, established in 1898. Pool: May 1 - mid-October. Max pull thru: 60 feet. Your hosts: Kelly & Sandy Rodwick.
My buddy and I stayed one night here and it was very accommodating I must say! The workers were super nice and chill, and the tent site was quality. It even had a very pleasant tree for shade. Also, the showers were clean and nice. 5 out of 5.
Good location near restaurants and only 25 minutes from the National Park. Full hookup and pull through sites. The playground was a little run down but our kids didn’t mind. The WiFi worked pretty well. They also let you borrow sleds to take to the sand dunes which our kids loved. Nice that there was a fenced dog run area as well.
This KOA shows it’s age, though everything worked very well. Just could use some upgrading and TLC. Staff was beyond friendly! Hot coffee in the morning, puzzles in the rec room. Loved that they let us borrow sleds for the dunes, saved us $20/sled at the NP gift shop! Laundry was priced great at$2.75/load (wash & dry)!
Nice place! Great staff and store. They’ll let you borrow sled to go to white sands too. Recommend!
Nice spot with clean facilities and laundry. Friendly staff.
Stayed at this KOA due its proximity to White Sands NP. First thing to note is that it is very close to the railroad tracks, so we would not stay here again due to the noise level of the frequent overnight trains. That being said, park is decent enough, staff was friendly, laundry room was clean. They have a nice dog park. Propane on site. 30 Amp full hook up. We came in the winter after a storm so our space was muddy :(
Facilities were clean and the staff was extremely friendly, bathrooms were clean. We were there at the beginning of summer, the pool closed at 7pm, we felt that was too early for summer hours. Other KOA pools close at 9pm. Campground is in the middle of the town so don't expect the "camping" feeling. Restaurants and stores are close by. Would stay here again if going to White Sands Monument.
Excellent, clean, amenities and friendly, helpful staff. However, depending on your definition of camping, the 'camp' aspect of the grounds may have little to be desired. We're used to camping in state parks and places a little more 'outdoorsy'. Pitching a tent in a gravel parking lot at the edge of town wasn't really what we had in mind, but it served it's purpose for an evening as we were passing through to our next destination.
Compared to the other KOA's that we have stayed at, this one is sub-par. They do not have propane to fill up tanks and the site seemed a little dirty. The staff was friendly however and it was conveniently located to White Sands and other attractions. It was also loud, due to it being next to the railroad tracks.
