Cold Spring Harbor, New York, United States
Our first major stop! Neil Gaiman wrote about this place in one of our favorite books, "American Gods." When we first started planning this road trip, we knew we had to go here.
Gaiman's words about The House on the Rock: "I had to tone down my description of it and leave things out in the book in order to make it believable. It's a monument to kitsch and wonder and madness and uncertainty. It contains the largest carousel in the world, which nobody ever gets to ride (although people ride it in the book. It takes them somewhere)..."

Alex gets irrationally excited about big sand dunes.
Hesperus
Visiting our friend, Ruby.
Gorgeous area, on Navajo land. We'll likely just drive through.
Opportunity to sleep among these wild rock formations? Yes please.
This will be Alex and Ben's first ever visit to the Grand Canyon. It's hard to get more major than this.
