7.3.16 Hi! I'm Dana, and I just finished 10 months of national service with the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). California and I have had an intense relationship for the past few months, but it's time things came to an end. It's not you, it's me - I promise. I'm bidding California farewell and headed to my favorite state in the nation, Washington. I'll be stopping off in various spots to stretch my legs, but overall this trip is designed to get me there quickly; if I had more time I would be stopping every few miles along the coast, truth be told.
Sacramento has been "home" for the past 10 months, though I never spent more than a month at a time here. It has certainly grown to feel familiar, and I'll look back on it fondly someday, I'm sure.
I love Susanville. I spent a whirlwind two weeks working here this past winter, and it's a quaint small town with plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities. I plan on stopping here for the night to spend time with a local couple I met back in April, but not before taking a stroll down the Bizz Johnson Trail.
From Medford - Route 62 north and then east. From Klamath Falls - Route 97 north to Route 62 north and then west., OR, US
This will be my first time at Crater Lake! I'm so excited to see it. I won't be staying long, but it will be a nice way to stretch and take in some beautiful sights!
I've done a lot of growing in Eugene, OR over the past year, as funny as that may sound. It's been the site of brave new beginnings, heart bruises, self-reflection, and wonderful new friends. I couldn't imagine driving past it; it's a must-stop.
Seattle, how I love you. Home away from home for so many years, one day you will get me for keeps. For now I'll just be a few days before I skip off to Europe. See you in September <3
With that, I'll be flying to Germany in a few days. Next U.S. roadtrip: September, 2016!
