SOLID PLANS

TENTATIVE PLANS Dates: Packing 08/14-08/16, Road Trip 08/16 - 08/19, Wedding 08/19-08/21, Return Drive 08/21-08/22

Camping in Oregon, Staying at rentals in California--1-2 nights camping (tents??) in Oregon Parks and 1 night in California State Rental everyone's got a tent, plenty of tents, camping means we need to bring food and coffee, and games which means we need to bring the van, right? means we probably will need to caravan, Regan's car or do we rent? if we rent, consider renting a van w/ seats that go down so we have a built-in backup plan if it rains or the air quality is bad or something. if we're worried about air quality, do we stay near the coast then to get windy?

DETAILS/LOGISTICS America the Beautiful--must check pass to see if this will get us into more stuff/parks

Oregon Pacific Coast Passport - Jess has one coming in the mail, will need the $10 5-day vehicle passport per person i think...not sure though

California, naturally going to be more expensive: http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=28057 not sure which of these two we'd need:

California Explorer Annual Pass ($195): Valid for vehicle entrance to 134 state parks, including the high demand Southern California beaches along the Orange, Los Angeles and San Diego Coasts. https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=21433 for a list where some parks are operated by a third party, and so do not honor this pass.

Golden Poppy" Annual Pass ($125): This popular pass is back. The pass provides vehicle entrance to 112 state parks including most reservoirs and many popular destination parks and northern California beaches.

If we're camping somewhere along the way.... In Oregon: https://stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=reserve.make In California: https://reservecalifornia.com/Web/#!results

If we're doing a campervan rental... Pickups+Drop-Offs in Portland; Generally about $120-$200 per day. If you take 3 days to drive down and include the weekend for the actual wedding and return, figure 6 days > $1,200 worst-case, not including the fees or taxes that might apply plus gas. Also forces issue of camping the entire time because it would be too expensive to stay at an inn or anything along the way. (this also only includes 2-person campers) so for Steph and Al alone, this would be pretty expensive and arduous for the rest with camping gear and stuff like that.

Also consider it will be hot in August, so need to be sure we're in a windy place or have air conditioning where possible.
