A day at the beach can be super relaxing, or filled with excitement. For a beach trip with a little bit of both, you can't beat Florida's Hollywood. In addition to their vibrant and literally colorful downtown area (check out the mural tour, there are 24 to discover and each is more incredible than the last!) there's also the famed Broadwalk. More than 2 miles long right beside the shore, the Broadwalk is lined with resorts, local shops, parks, bars and restaurants, and much more. The paved pathway is perfect for biking, walking, or rollerblading, and provides beach access all along the way. Here's our guide to the best of the Broadwalk in Florida's Hollywood.

Hollywood, FL

The beach in Florida's Hollywood is unlike any other. That's because it's got the Broadwalk: a paved, 2.5-mile pathway lined by sandy beach, watched over by lifeguards on one side and shops, hotels, and restaurants on the other. Along the way are parks, attractions, mom-and-pop ice cream joints, play fountains, showers to get the sand off, and tons more. The Broadwalk has won countless awards for Florida's Hollywood, but the design has a quaint, Old-World feel. Since it's paved, the Broadwalk is great for jogging, biking, or even rollerblading. Pro tip: A trolley connects downtown Hollywood with the Broadwalk, so ocean access is quick and convenient no matter where you are.

One of the best ways to explore the Broadwalk is via bike. Sun & Fun Cycles is a stellar rental company that offers a surprisingly wide variety of peddle-powered rides from which to choose. Sun & Fun has comfy recumbent Fun Cycles, three-wheeled low-riders, and, of course, vintage classic bikes. If you're with a family or group, the staff can lend you a three-adult/two-kid surrey bike, or even a six-adult limo bike. Another great feature of Sun & Fun is that it also rents beach-friendly wheelchairs, motor-powered scooters, and more-- for those with special needs. Most rentals are available for short or long terms, and you can even have your vehicle delivered.

Whether you're doing the Broadwalk on bike or on foot, Charnow Park is a great place to take a breather. In addition to shaded seating and picnic tables, there's also a great playground and an interactive splash fountain that kids love. Charnow also has six restored 1930s-era paddleball courts. Close to parking with beach access, the park is a popular spot for people-watching and relaxing along the Broadwalk.

The resort features two beachfront pools as well as a rooftop bar and pool, a surfing simulator, a spa, paddleboard rentals, shopping, and more. It also has numerous onsite dining options. There's the flip-flop-friendly, tiki-inspired Lone Palm Beach Bar, the ritzy JWB Prime Steak and Seafood, and even the Floridays Airstream Cafe, located in a vintage trailer, in addition to the always popular Margaritaville Bar.

Another stellar dining option along the Broadwalk is Ocean Alley. In addition to awesome views from the beachfront location, it specializes in classic Italian-style seafood. The menu features fresh seafood salad, linguine with clams and Florida conch fritters, and breakfast and lunch items too. There's always something going on, whether it's Friday Martinis and Jazz or a live steel drum band on Sunday nights. Plus, you can feel good that Ocean Alley is a Surfrider Foundation-approved ocean-friendly restaurant.

For a more laid-back dining experience, check out the Hollywood Brewing Company Brewpub & Kitchen. The atmosphere is funky and makes for a fun place to spend an evening drinking and mingling with other patrons. The menu has tons of bar bites like burgers, pizza, and pretzels that pair perfectly with their easy-drinking brews. The fruity notes in the Limon Lager and Mango IPA add to the fun and beachy vibe. And for non-beer-drinkers, the Brewpub pays just as much attention to the rest of the bar, offering house-made schnapps and cocktails with fresh-squeezed Florida oranges. Pro tip: You can rent out the Boundless Beer Table for two or three hours at a time. It includes unlimited beer and appetizers for you and three friends.

Hollywood Beach is the center of the action on the Broadwalk. Rent a cabana or a chair and an umbrella, or simply lay out a towel and relax. The sand is kept well-maintained, giving the beach a luxurious, resort feel. There are lifeguards on duty, and the turquoise water is super clean, so it's the perfect beach for a swim. There is parking nearby, and this beach is close to the action, with tons of bars and restaurants within a quick walking distance. Pro tip: Get here early to snag a good spot, since the beach can get crowded.

Bonus: Mural Tour

Hollywood, FL

There's more to Florida's Hollywood than just the beach; it also has a downtown district with an artsy flair. The best way to experience the culture and beauty is on a mural tour. There are more than two dozen colorful murals across the downtown area, some done by iconic street artists and muralists like the London Police, Tatiana Suarez, Kenny Scharf, Evoca1, and Rone, among others. Anniversary Park is a great starting point for a guided or self-guided mural tour of downtown.
